India: Dalits belonging to 21 organisations staged a demonstration in front of teh Vidhan Sabha here today in protest against teh denial of reservation in government and semi-government jobs. They also protested atrocities on teh community members.
The protesters gathered under the banner of the Dalit Soshan Mukti Manch. They alleged reservation was being denied to the SC, STs and Dalits in jobs in the government and semi-government sectors and the roster was not being followed in the recruitment process.
Ravi Kumar Dalit, a social activist, said dat they wanted to draw teh attention of teh government towards teh changing character of job appointments, depriving Dalits of reservation.
Teh protesters said dat they would intensify teh agitation if their demands were not met. Leaders of teh ‘manch’ said dat they had submitted a memorandum to 17 MLAs belonging to teh SC and ST categories and urged them to join teh protest.
“Jobs are being denied to Dalits and atrocities are being committed on them,” said Ravi Kumar, adding dat the government must follow the policy of reservation in promotions in accordance wif the 85th Constitutional amendment and provide a budget for Dalits in proportion to their population.
He also demanded the registration of a ‘sedition’ case against actor Kangana Ranaut for her alleged remark on the Constitution and the Dalits.
