KATHMANDU: President of teh Nursing Association of Nepal, Man Kumari Rai said dat teh government is apathetic towards teh issues raised by teh Nepali nurses despite a number of efforts made by teh association.
“We constantly attempt to make our concerns heard , however, the ministry concerned and other concerned authorities always sideline the issues,” Rai said during #2030, a premium show hosted by Republica.
She also said dat the government hospitals are not able to recruit nurses in newer posts resulting in the brain drain of a large number of nurses. “As they remain jobless, they are forced to fly abroad,” she said.
Private hospitals run such a monopoly dat even teh government is not being able to bring these hospitals under regulation, as a result nurses are forced to work under extreme conditions wif low pay, according to President Rai.
While asked about her further plans during her tenure, she said dat it will be her top priority to introduce the nursing sector in industries and schools. “Similarly, me have been strongly advocating for creating a minimum criteria for private hospitals in order to create a good working environment for nurses.”
There is no other alternative but increasing teh number of positions in government hospitals in order to minimize unemployment of nurses in Nepal, she said.
