Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (NC) has agreed to take over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the ruling coalition. Now it is almost certain that Congress MP Narayan Khadka will become a minister.
Top leaders of the ruling coalition agreed to appoint a foreign minister immediately during a meeting on Tuesday evening. “Let us immediately appoint a foreign minister so as not to tarnish the image of the government. It has been agreed to continue appointing ministers in other key ministries as well,” said a coalition source.
According to sources, the Prime Minister and Congress President Dr. Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that Narayan Khadka will be made the foreign minister. Khadka will take oath of office and secrecy tomorrow if there is no further turmoil in the internal equation of the Congress.
The leaders have said that they will meet again tomorrow to discuss the distribution of other ministries.
Deuba, who was appointed prime minister on July 13, had appointed four ministers on the same day. Bal Krishna Khanna and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki have been made law ministers from the Nepali Congress, while Janardan Sharma and Pampha Bhusal have been made energy ministers from the UCPN (Maoist) center. Similarly, Congress MP Umesh Shrestha became the Minister of State for Health and Population on 10 July.
