Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has violated the Constitution in the chief justice appointment process. As per the Constitution, the Constitutional Council is required to make recommendations for the appointment of a new chief justice one month before the post falls vacant. With incumbent Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki set to retire on August 5, the Constitutional Council should have recommended a new chief justice by July 7. But Dahal, who is the chairman of the Constitutional Council, has violated the constitutional provision by not even calling a meeting of the Council for starting the appointment process.
