PM Prachanda wins confidence vote for the fourth time

Prime Minister Dahal secured trust vote in his 16-month-long tenure.

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ secured the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Monday.

This is the fourth time Prime Minister Dahal secured trust vote in his 16-month-long tenure. Dahal got vote of confidence for the first time on January 10 last year after he became prime minister in December 2022 with the support of the CPN-UML, among other parties.

Among the 158 members of the lower house participating in the voting process, Dahal received 157 votes while one member remained neutral while the main opposition Nepali Congress members continued chanting slogans throughout the voting process.

The prime minister required at least 138 votes to prove majority in favour of the trust motion. He sought the vote of confidence as per Article 100 (2) of the Constitution after Janata Samajbadi Party led by Upendra Yadav withdrew support to the government after the party was split on May 5.
