Ram Autar Paswan Takes Over as Leader of Dalit Liberation Organization

Kathmandu – The Nepal Dalit Liberation Organization has selected its new leadership, appointing Ram Autar Paswan as the central president during the organization's standing committee meeting. Paswan, a prominent leader in the Dalit movement and a member of the Constituent Assembly, previously served as the senior vice president of the organization.

The leadership transition follows the resignation of former president Ganesh Bishwakarma, prompted by the statute of the Unified Socialist Party, which prohibits individuals from holding dual positions as party officials and public organization leaders. Subsequently, the standing committee unanimously entrusted Paswan with the role of central president.

The meeting has nominated Netra Nepali of Dolakha, Nanda Ghatani of Dolakha, and Pradeep Sob of Kailali as Vice President and in-charge of Koshi Province (Taplejung), Prem Bishwakarma of Dailekh, Nim Bahadur Nepali of Salyan and Durga Nepali of Tanahun as Deputy General Secretary and Secretaries respectively, Dwarika Shankar (Kathmandu) as Central Treasurer and Subbasaheb Paswan (Rautahat) as Central Committee Member.

The organization has planned to hold the Sixth National Conference in Kathmandu from Jeth 21–23, 2082. This decision was shared by Gopal Baraili, Deputy General Secretary and Head of the Publicity Department.

In preparation for the conference, the organization is launching a four-month ‘Organization Reorganization and Dalit Renaissance Campaign’ from Magh 1, 2081, to mid-Baisakh 2082. The campaign aims to mobilize and restructure the organization, ensuring the success of the upcoming conference.

The Dalit Liberation Organization, under Paswan's leadership, is expected to intensify its efforts to advocate for Dalit rights and address systemic inequalities, continuing its role as a leading force in Nepal's social justice movement.
