30 Dalit PhD Scholars Honored by Samata Foundation

In a landmark event, the Samata Foundation celebrated the academic achievements of 30 PhD scholars from the Dalit community through a special program. Among the honorees were distinguished individuals including Dr. Madan Prasad Pariyar, Dr. Chet Bahadur Pariyar, Dr. Dron Rasaili, Dr. Bishnu Pariyar, and many others who have made significant contributions to their respective fields.

The honors were presented by Minister of State for Forests and Environment, Rupa B.K., along with Dr. Madan Prasad, President of the Samata Foundation, and former Ambassador Padam Sundas. Senior advocate Narayan Nepal was also recognized for his contributions.

During the ceremony, Minister B.K. emphasized the importance of implementing the constitutional provisions related to Dalit rights. She called on the honorees to lead the charge in advocating for the community's upliftment and stressed that their recognition serves as an inspiration for others to pursue higher education.

State Minister B.K. pledged to take all possible initiatives for the rights of Dalits, urging collaboration and support from all sectors. She highlighted the critical role of organizations like the Samata Foundation in advocating for Dalit rights and uplifting marginalized communities.

Jeevan Pariyar, a member of the House of Representatives, pointed out the stark educational disparity within the Dalit community, noting that only 30 individuals have attained PhDs despite millions of Dalits living in the country. He called for systemic reforms to ensure equitable access to education, suggesting that every municipality should support at least one PhD candidate from the Dalit community.

Dr. Madan Pariyar, President of the Samata Foundation, underscored the organization's commitment to policy advocacy through research, publications, and training. He expressed hope that the honor program would inspire more young Dalits to pursue academic excellence and leadership roles.

The event also featured discussions on the impact of climate change on the socio-economic conditions of the Dalit community. Additionally, the foundation launched the Dalit Human Rights Book 2080, a significant publication aimed at shedding light on the struggles and achievements of Dalits in Nepal.

Prominent figures such as the Chairperson of the National Dalit Commission Devraj Bishwakarma, political representatives, and members of various Dalit rights organizations were in attendance, reaffirming their collective commitment to achieving social justice and equality.

This recognition of academic excellence marks a significant step toward empowering the Dalit community and fostering a more inclusive society.
