New York – Renowned parkour athlete Dinesh Sunar has reached yet another milestone, earning his 20th Guinness World Record. Sunar, who has continually showcased his unparalleled talent in parkour and gymnastics, set the record for performing "The Most Blindfolded Backward Somersaults in 30 Seconds" by completing 14 backflips without using his hands.

This remarkable feat was accomplished on December 7, 2024, during the Akron International Dance Festival in Akron, Ohio, USA. Organized by the City of Akron in collaboration with international partners, the festival brought together over 300 spectators worldwide. Sunar’s record was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records headquarters on December 20, 2025.

The event celebrated diverse cultures with dance performances representing countries such as Mexico, Germany, India, Nepal, and the United States. Key evaluators included Ohio State representatives Ms. Christine Weidie (Council Member District 6) and Mr. Jeff Wilhite (Council Member District 4). Martial arts experts Hark Tiruwa and Kaushila Khanal served as judges, while Neelam Khanal and Phil Lombardo of Akron's Ward Two Council ensured accurate timekeeping.

The record-breaking attempt received widespread support. Lakesh Shrestha, a New York-based social activist and owner of Top Shop Kathmandu, was the platinum sponsor. At the same time, media partners such as Makai House Media New York, Hello America, and Dignity Post amplified Sunar’s achievement globally.

A Journey of Dedication and Inspiration

Reflecting on his achievement, Dinesh Sunar shared, "It's been 12 years of relentless effort for this record. I persevered, and today I’ve succeeded." Sunar aspires to inspire younger generations to embrace parkour, aiming to elevate Nepal’s presence on the global stage through sports.

Looking ahead, Sunar plans to establish world-class training programs in parkour, both in Nepal and the United States, to produce elite athletes and coaches. His vision extends beyond sports; he hopes to strengthen cultural, diplomatic, and sports ties between Nepal and the USA, particularly the city of Akron.

A Bridge Between Cultures

Sunar’s contributions transcend his sport. By promoting parkour internationally, he is bolstering Nepal’s identity and fostering goodwill between nations. Numerous organizations, including Hami Nepal Global, the World Freerunning Parkour Federation, the NEPALESE AMERICAN LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSOCIATION, and the Bhutanese Community Association of Akron support his efforts.

Dinesh Sunar’s achievement marks a historic moment for Nepal, inspiring countless individuals to strive for greatness while uniting communities through the universal language of sports.
