National Dalit Commission Draws Attention to Satyendra-Neha Inter-Caste Marriage Case and Caste Discrimination Incidents

The National Dalit Commission has intensified its focus on the Satyendra-Neha inter-caste marriage case, highlighting widespread caste discrimination issues across the nation. In a recent press release, the Commission underscored its commitment to addressing these critical issues based on complaints received, media reports, and comprehensive studies.

Inspector General of Nepal Police, Basanta Kunwar, provided crucial insights during a meeting at the Commission's office, reaffirming the police force's dedication to upholding constitutional principles and combating caste-based discrimination. He pledged rigorous investigations into cases like Satyendra-Neha's marriage, emphasizing the police's role in ensuring societal acceptance and safeguarding the couple's rights.

Commission Chairman Devraj Bishwakarma expressed profound concern over the Satyendra-Neha case, directing law enforcement authorities to take decisive legal action against those perpetuating discrimination. The Commission's directive aims to prevent wrongful arrests, torture, and unjust legal actions against the couple, reinforcing their right to marital harmony and security.

In response to a petition filed by Satyendra Ram, citing instances of physical and psychological abuse by law enforcement agencies, the Commission has urged immediate action from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Nepal Police. This includes ensuring the couple's safety and addressing allegations of misconduct swiftly and fairly.

Furthermore, the Commission has instructed local authorities in Sarlahi District to facilitate the safe return of Satyendra Ram and Neha Rauniyar to their homes, accompanied by adequate security measures. This directive seeks to rectify injustices and provide necessary support to victims of caste-based discrimination across various incidents, including discriminatory practices during religious ceremonies and cultural events.
