World Conference on Caste -Free World 2025 to be Held in Toronto

Toronto, 21 February 2025 – In a world where millions continue to face discrimination based on caste, race, and descent, a groundbreaking global event is set to take place in Toronto, Canada. From May 25 to May 27, 2025, the World Conference on caste -Free World will bring together policymakers, activists, academics, and human rights defenders in a shared effort to eliminate caste-based oppression.

Organized by Sahayatra-Canada, a non-governmental organization registered in Canada, in collaboration with various organizations from South Asia and North America, the conference will be held under the theme “Building Solidarity towards Equality, Social Justice, and the Elimination of Casteism.” The event aims to foster an inclusive dialogue on strategies and best practices to combat caste-based discrimination worldwide.

For Dr. Dron Rasali, Chair of the organizing committee, the need for such a conference is urgent and long overdue. “More than 260 million people globally endure inhumane treatment and systemic discrimination based on their caste, race, and ethnicity. What began as a regional issue in South Asia has now become a global problem,” he explained. He emphasized that the conference will serve as a crucial platform for international dialogue, focusing on practical solutions and policy-driven actions to end caste-based discrimination.

The three-day event is expected to attract a diverse range of participants, including government agencies, policymakers, civil society representatives, business leaders, academic researchers, scholars, students, and activists. The discussions will explore how collective efforts can be strengthened to promote justice, equality, and long-term systemic change.

Excitement is already building, with 15 distinguished scholars, professors, and researchers confirmed as keynote speakers. More are expected to join through abstract paper submissions. Santosh Bishwakarma, Coordinator of the organizing committee, expressed optimism about the conference’s impact: “This platform will not only allow experts and advocates to share their experiences, ideas, and initiatives, but it will also build international solidarity in the fight against caste discrimination. Nepal, as the focus country, will be central to many discussions.”

The conference agenda is ambitious and far-reaching, covering:

  • The impact of caste discrimination on individuals and communities
  • First-hand experiences and personal stories of those affected
  • Case studies highlighting successful interventions
  • A review of international laws and their implementation
  • Global efforts to end discrimination
  • Research on Dalit communities and human rights advocacy
  • Best practices and institutional strategies for promoting social justice

With approximately 300 participants expected, the event will take place at the Canada Convention Centre in Brampton, Toronto, providing an opportunity for activists, policymakers, and experts to connect, collaborate, and push for meaningful change.

The organizers have extended an open invitation to all those who believe in a world free from discrimination. “Ending casteism is not just the responsibility of a few—it requires a collective effort from governments, institutions, and individuals alike,” said Dr. Rasali.
