Landslide obstructs Siddhartha Highway
Traffic along the Siddhartha Highway has come to a grinding halt following a landslide in the Siddhababa area of Palpa district on Sunday morning.
According to Dobhan Police Station, the mudslide occurred at Tinahu Rural Municipality-3 of the Papla-Butwal section of the highway.
Landslides occur frequently at the road stretch from Dobhan to Siddhababa during the rainy season, thereby obstructing the road. A 1.12-kilometre tunnel project is being constructed in the stretch which is a landslide-prone and stone slide-prone area.
Police said the China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the contractor of the tunnelway, has mobilised backhoes to clear the debris.
Earlier on July 24, a massive landslide in the area had blocked the traffic for hours.
Prem Shrestha, chair of Tinau Rural Municipality, urged passengers travelling along the road section to stay alert.
