Shyam Karki, who is an international multimedia journalist specializing in documentary making, was recently felicitated with the best documentary award at the international film festival hosted in Mauritius.
The Mauritius-held film festival had provided a platform to showcase over a hundred documentaries from filmmakers across the globe including Nepal, where Karki made the country proud with his commendable work on February 1, 2023.
The documentary 'Wildfire' (Dadhelo) also received an honorable mention Award at the Australian Film Festival (Dare to Struggle). Additionally, it was successful in getting the documentary (Special Mention Award) in the Nepal-America Film Festival.
Karki mentions that he has presented his documentary, which has been produced under his own home banner--Samson Film Production, in at least 30 film festivals spanning from India to abroad.
In the same manner, alongside drawing international buzz, the documentary has also become the talk of the town after it came second in the climate change category of the recently concluded Kathmandu Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF). KIMFF is an annual film festival that over the years, has attracted not only filmmakers, film enthusiasts, and critics, but also scholars, journalists, among others.
Shyam Karki, whose extensive experience in filmmaking expanding almost two decades, documentary depicts the affect of 60 forest fires that raged in Nepali forests in 2021 on endangered animals including the red panda. Meanwhile, the documentary also emphasizes on the impact of altering climate on animal and human life.
