NEW YORK: The Dignity Initiative made significant strides as it hosted its inaugural side event at the 2024 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York on July 12.
Centered on the theme "Breaking Caste Bars: SDG Framework for Justice and Inclusion of Dalits," the event featured a spotlight report evaluating Nepal's progress towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the lens of the Dalit community.
This dialogue underscored the pressing need for inclusivity, social justice, and human rights protection for Dalits facing systemic barriers worldwide.
Co-hosted by CIVICUS and the International Dalit Solidarity Network, the event gathered distinguished speakers including Jesselina Rana, Beena Pallical, Rup Sunar, and Bhuwan Poudel.
"We are pleased to have had the opportunity to engage with leaders from national and international organizations, alongside the Nepalese government," said Rup Sunar, executive head of the Dignity Initiative following the event. Bhuwan Poudel, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented the government’s position towards SDG achievements.
