KATHMANDU, July 28: Prem Bahadur Baram, a leader representing the highly marginalized Indigenous community of the country, has been elected the chairperson of the Bhimsen Rural Municipality Coordination Committee of the CPN (Maoist Centre) on Saturday.

The third gathering of the coordination committee held at Nayabazar elected a 19-member executive committee led by Baram, who led the committee as its secretary during the previous term. The newly elected committee includes Ganesh Duwadi as vice-chair, Narayan Lamichhane as secretary, Pushpa Bhattarai as joint secretary, and Chandika Pande as treasurer.

Executive members elected include Krishna Kishor Bhatta, Dol Prasad Acharya, Rajan Lamichhane, Prachanda Amgain, Santosh Bayalkoti, Rabi Pokharel, Kumar Shrestha, Bishan Dankoti, Sher Bahadur Thapa Magar, Himlal Pande, Ramesh Surkheti, Sir Bahadur Darai, Sabita Timilsina and Bharat Shrestha.

While addressing the inaugural session of the gathering, a central member of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and member of the National Assembly Jhakku Subedi said the party has been dwindling each year. “Therefore its leaders should start self-criticism to improve the party and that should begin with party chairman Prachanda and senior vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha,” Subedi said.

As part of its gathering, the coordination committee also organized a blood donation program. According to organizers, 44 people donated blood at the function.
